There are a lot of healthy foods readily available in this day and age. A lot of these foods are at our local supermarkets. Some of the best super foods are listed below. I try to incorporate these foods into my family's diet each week...if not daily.
Flax seeds: a super source of omega-3s. I add these in baked goods and smoothies.
Chia seeds: a super source of omega-3 fatty acids. Great sprinkled on yogurt or in cereal.
Kale: Full of multivitamins. Great in smoothies or sauteed with olive oil.
Seaweed: a good source of vitamins A and C, calcium, iron, and it's also rich in iodine. Serve in soups
or in salads.
Pomegranate: full of antioxidants. We eat these fresh, use the juice in smoothies, or sprinkle the seeds
on salads.
Tart Cherries: Tempers inflammation. I have a hard time finding these. The juice is widely
available though. It's actually even better than fresh because the antioxidants are more
concentrated. Serve straight up or in smoothies.
Kefir: This product can best be described as a drinkable yogurt. It is full of probiotics that helps your
body absorb nutrients, improve your digestion, and helps boost your immunities. You can sip this
straight, add to smoothies, or pour over fruit or cereal.
Dark chocolate: Full of antioxidants that benefit brain, heart, and blood pressure functions. It can also
affect your mood in a positive way. It's the healthiest indulgence around!
Next time you are visiting your grocer, pick up some of these Super foods!
